My Calathea, (resembles Roseo picta) was on its way out, or so I thought. I keep Cals/relatives in a front plant room..the room is hot and very bright..
Cals are kept 5-7' away from a west window, and a few feet from a north.
Anyway, the Cal looked horrible..brown and yellow crunchy leaves..the pot was on the small size since Cals do not like to be overpotted, but because of its size, soil drid out fast.
I first checked roots which filled the pot, so repotted in a bit larger size. Gave it a hearty pruning and hosing afterwards. Instead of placing back in the front plant room, I set directly in an open window facing north..It has since sent out several new, healthy leaves. My plans are to keep in this spot until autumn when the room cools down.
So, anyone growing Cals/marantas, etc, who are having problems, place it in an opened, semi-bright (not hot) window..You'll be amazed..Toni
