Where is this root from?

There's a large root, 3/8"-1/2" diameter, thats next to my house. I tried pulling it to see where it was from, but it broke after 5-6 ft. I see 2 possibilities. A 5 year old Celeste fig, 10 ft tall, 15 ft from the house; and a 5 year old 15 ft tall Contorted So jujube, 40 ft from the house. The root ended next to a sprinkler head beside the house.

It looks just like a Li jujube root I saw when I moved a tree before.

I havent seen any suckering yet, but perhaps the lawnmower is cutting them off.

If its the jujube, I'm worried how far it will go to find water, & potential foundation damage.

Any ideas?

I is probably the jujube. But given that it is 40 ft from the house, I don't think you have anything to worry about regarding the foundation. The tree would have to be bigger and closer to worry me. The root isn't going to get that big that far from the tree.

Thanks fruit nut. This root is like a piece of rope. I knew not to plant a jujube next to a house, but even 40 ft now seems too close to me. My new standard will be 60-70 ft. The root/rope seems to make a beeline to a water source and spread from there. I had wondered why this jujube was doing so much better than the others, 100 ft from the house.

Maybe I'll dig a trench 10 ft from the tree and drop in cinder blocks.
