Our GW stinks :(

I scour and scour and can never find much. This weekend I did find a few pots to put in the flower beds, but I was really looking for glass items for a totem (you all have inspired me, and I have a bare spot in one of my beds where nothing grows..perfect for a totem!). Pretty much all I found was flimsy vases. I did find a really pretty flower shaped plate, where the outside was clear and the middle red. I bought that, but otherwise, nothing. I was so inspired and then let down! I'll have to go to some garage sales and see what I can find.

    Yikes!!!
I'm working on a glass totem using the glass from older table lamps. They can be found in most thrift shops. The condition -working or not- is not important since all you want is the glass. I even have a few hanging from a tree branch (all it does is add color to the backyard). I added one to a fountain I made. I think its neat as the sun moves the color from the glass changes. The upside is the glass already has holes to work with.

Robert, I absolutely love those! The one in the tree is just stunning! There's a few local thrift stores I'm going to try, but they all are really pretty pricey for thrift stores. Nevertheless, I'm on a mission and nothing will stop me! ;)

Don't forget to check your local Goodwill store. Even Walmart has some cheap colored vases, large and small. Other than that, check the Dollar Store also, always cheap (and good) totem stuff in there.

Those are really pretty, Robert. My GW never has lamp stuff I can use, but certainly plenty of other things. I managed to blow $50 in there today, which is crazy I know.
Usually I spend under $20, guess they were too well stocked.
LOL Sad thing is, I went in there to get a couple of books to read.....

I am sorry your Good Will is not favorable for you! I love the Good Will and Second Hand stores around here. Maybe you need to check others in a different area. I was in a little city a couple of weeks ago and had never been to their GW. It was fabulous! My husband teases me that he has NEVER seen a woman who is so happy to shop at Good Will!

Keep trying....you will find your treasures!

I went to our GW this afternoon...My Garden Gal was the only one who got something new. She got a new demin jumper and a pink knit "hoodie" to wear under it.

Her clothes have completely faded and look terrible.

I have a Garden Webb friend from the Kitchen Table coming to visit sometime this week (I'm in Iowa she is in Ohio....we've never met in real life before...I'm excited) So my Garden Gal is getting dressed up for her...

Lamps at our GW are sometime ten dollars...and not many with clear glass. I'll have to try the yard sales too.

It may require more frequent visits. I have heard around the web over the years that some of these places put out the new stuff on certain days and others know this, so they are ready and waiting. If you don't get there, you'll miss the good stuff.

Our TS is totally take it or leave it. One time I can find lots of cool things, the next time I may end up only leaving with some thing DD decided she couldln't live without.
