Cherry suckers do not follow a schedule to form roots. If it is a deep sucker, it may form extensive roots; if it is very shallow it may not. If your sucker does root, it will be a clone of the rootstock, not the grafted fruiting tree above. If you plant out a sucker, it may or may not have fruit, and if it does, it will be different from that of the original grafted tree. Usually inferior.

Thank you Don for your reply. The reason for wanting a sucker is to get a hardy rootstock for grafting.
