Finished the Bed Bench

I finally got this bench painted. I'm not so sure I like the green color now, but I do love the bench. I hate to sit it outside, so for now it is just sitting in our living room until I decide what to do with it.

How beautiful! I like where you placed it also.

Very nice! That reminds me of the bed I used to sleep in as a child. The quilt is the perfect accessory.

It's beautiful, and so is the quilt. Did you make it? You'll have to scout peoples trash and the thift stores and yard sales for another to go outside!

Thanks, but I did not make the quilt - it is a Big Lots find from several years ago. Actually I DO have another one to make, this was a set of bunk beds! I saw another one just like it at Goodwill the other day - they wanted $10 for 2 pieces. Knowing I had another set at home to make, I passed it by. Might see if they have it next time I go in. I SO want a store to sell this kind of stuff in!

Oh my gosh...this turned out great! I love that color you painted it.

That has got to be the most beautiful bench I've seen EVER!!! Love the color! When I saw the first pic, I thought oh, how nice, then after seeing the next pic, WOW!!!!
I wish you could tell us how you made it, but that would be too much to ask. I have a couple of those bunk bed head and foot boards laying around in my basement waiting for a repurpose. For now, I'll just sit here and admire yours. Thanks for posting the pic, it made my day.

It was very simple, although I admit my husband did the construction part of it. I got the idea and instructions here on this board. It involved sawing the footboard in half and screwing it onto the sides of the headboard. Then using scrap lumber, he made a frame around the inside (to nail the seat to), squared it up, and then used scrap barn siding pieces to make the seat part - cut them to fit, glued them together and used an air nailer to put it on the wooden frame. I used wood putty to patch the holes and the slots where the side boards fit into the head and foot boards. Then primed and painted, and ta da.....done. Took longer to paint it than to build it!

This turned out WONDERFUL! You & DH did a great job on this.

I just bought a full size bed last week for $10 & it's similar to your style, but the top of the spindles are big & round. I just bought another bed today that I've been dying to find & I got if for $7. I hope I (DH ;) ) can make them look as good as yours.

I just love it, going to go hit the TS see if I can find one of my own to make.

That is BEAUTIFUL. I wouldn't put it outside either, looks perfect to me. Love the pale green color. You did such a great job on it, and your DH of course.

Darn, wish my GW would get these in. Frustrating.

    Arlene:

Your bench is truly wonderful. The color is great and gives me inspiration. I would have never thoughts of such a pretty green. Very nice job.

You're right, that color isn't for you. Should I email my address to you? lol

I LOVE it. I love that color green & would paint every room that color if my dh would let me. I don't think I could put it outside either. That quilt looks great on it.

You did a great job making it. What is the seat made of & how did you round the edges? I am going to have to keep my eyes out for a headboard & footboard.

Arlene, the more I look at this, the more I like it. What size headboard is it?

Marti - the headboard is a twin size. The seat is made from tongue & groove pine barn siding scraps we had laying around. He used a router along the edge to put the curve on it.

OK - a question for all of you. Should I decide to sell this at my garage sale (seeing I have another one to make) what would you charge for it? Minus the quilt, of course.

Sounds like everyone likes green! It's just lighter than I had anticipated, but it's growing on me!

    Waiting for some price opinions.......

Arlene, I would ask at least 100 dollars, more if you think you could get it.

Wow, REALLY? I was thinking more like $50 tops.
