Help - fungus

Last week I noticed there was a white fungus in the red hemlock mulch under my bushes and hubby did not want to touch it as we are both allergic to mold. Now today I saw it is mostly turned black. Is this harmful???? It is a pretty large area and I do not know what to do. Should I put on a mask and just try to dig it up and put it in a plastic bag in the garbage. Since hubby has a herniated disc and I have bad osteoporosis we now have to have a lawn guy cut the grass and they are going to prune the bushes and put down new mulch. I know they are not "real landscapers" so they just do their thing. Should I ask them to take it away but they will probably just throw it in the wheelbarrow with the cuttings and then use the same wheelbarrow to bring in the new mulch thus spreading the mold spores all over.

Please advise.

Thanks
