how did you get theshower door without a header?
How did you manage that? Do you have issues with the door?

PRO14 years agoAga-lite is one glass mftr I use often for frameless shower & tub surrounds. I've found that you often have to lead with your design goal to get what you want without a lot of hardware when planning through a dealer. Height, width & location of door hinges make all the difference

- 14 years agoCould you use a slding door? The slider will show across the top but it will be stable. Here is mine with the slider. Our other one has a hinge along the wall on the left side. This one with the slider could have been on the right wall, but we didn't have room for it to swing out.

PRO11 years agoI am a Journeyman Glazier with overs 25 years experience. All I do is frameless showers, installing 4000+ to date.
The answer to this question lies in the measurements & layout of the shower. The above-mentioned design is a "neo-angle," which will typically (although not necessarily) hinge glass-to-glass. The weight of the door is significant, and as a result will often require a support bar. Smaller glass-to-glass arrangements have less weight to carry and therefore can be done without a glass header or bar.
This particular shower is different in that it incorporates a pony wall. The wall helps to better support the weight of the door, but the bigger concern is the large, mostly unsupported panel by the door. This almost certainly required either to be mounted to the ceiling, or with a brace, or a header panel. It's no wonder this was cheaper, because you're missing necessary hardware.
You do need to remember that this is glass, and glass is heavy. An under-supported layout is dangerous and a good tradesman will not sacrifice safety to aesthetics.
A better option would have been to either a) mount the door on the wall, or b) run the two side-panels up to the ceiling to create the required support. Other shower lay-outs may or may not have the same issues, again dependent on size, and whether the door is glass mounted or not.
