'Rusty' garden angel

I bought this at GW for .99, found it in the Christmas section. It was a bright shiny gold, I used red oxide primer(spray paint) and cinnamon to make it rusty. Now I'm thinking I wish I could make it look like a weather vane. I'll probably look for some stuff and see what I can come up with. Still looks a little Christmas-y,lol! I'd made a straw hat birdhouse to hang there, but took it down for the angel. I did find out where a dozen green frogs go to hide when the sun comes up!

I like the way your rust technique turned out. Be sure and post a picture if you make a weather vane out of it.

I like what you did to the angel! This forum, I think, teaches us all to look at everything a little differently. Everyone else would see a Christmas angel, but you saw a garden angel. I love that! Please show us if you turn it into a weathervane.

I love this forum. Don't get here as often as I would like to. There are always wonderful ideas!

I love the angel and the old rake. This gives me some ideas about what to do with my old tools!

    Keep the ideas coming!

I think it made a great garden angel, and I love it right where it is. Such a pretty vignette you made!!!!

Thanks ya'll! I sprayed it with the primer, then sprinkled cinnamon, and sprayed primer on again. Sure looks red in the pic,but it's more brown! Wish I could cut metal like Linda, lol, I'd make some letters..N,S,E,W...I was eyeballing an old TV antenna(sp),the rods on it might make a good weather vane,it wouldn't actually have to function...thinking,thinking....hmm. Maybe I should have made it a green patina instead, but hey, I could change it to green if I wanted to:) I need to drag the DH in on this project.

Love your angel!! You did a great job on that. You could check Tractor supply for weather vanes. They had some on clearance and I got a rooster one. You could take your angel and put it on top! But it looks great where it is too!!!(-:

Very clever I love the treatment you did.

I do like what you did with her! I did something similar with a Christmas angel that was dark red and rusty, but I made her into a "fairy". Mine had a halo and carried stars and I took them off.

I used to have an angel just like that Kudzukween. I think I gave it to my daughter...not sure....

I just recently bought some brown primer that looks like rust.

I'll have to look around to see if I still have it or not.

    You did a good job.

I like it on the rake! You will have to find a different one for the weather vane-Grin...

Thanks ya'll! Going to a yard sale today that says Christmas decor,we'll look for another! Quidam, I knew I'd seen another angel recently, and I looked and looked for the post! I told my DH somebody just got one like this and painted it lavender, that's where I got the idea when I spied this one at GW :) I LOVE yours, lavender is one of my favorite colors, I love how yours has the strips of metal curling on her dress, and the marbles added on:) A very inspiring group of people here!

Kudzu-if you have tinsnips you can cut metal. You can use flashing or tin cans-coffee can lids work great as do paint cans. If they have ridges flatten with a hammer. Try to use block letters, curves are hard. wind chimes made from flattened tin cans cut into shapes sound great too.

I have that same angel,i painted mine black.I also found another the same size a couple weeks ago but it has a different pose.I need to get it out of the trunk of my car and paint it,then i'll put them facing each other i think.

I don't think she looks Christmasy at all. I guess angels blowing trumpets are fitting at any time of the year! lol! I think it looks fantastic! I also like quidam's fairy too.

My DH is going to paint our tin roof, and I told him he needed to sprinkle cinnamon on it to make it look rustic!

you should have seen the look on his face!
