More Spindles

I still have a lot of these spindles! Today I made one blue painted one for my sister, with pots I bought at a yard sale last year. The lady I bought them from brought them back from Morrocco(did I spell that right? lol) I planted sweet potato vine in it,maybe my sister can keep it alive! I also made two green ones, these are from chair legs that my DH dug out of the neighbors trash a while back, used to be white. Haven't planted anything in those yet, just stuck some crepe myrtle in it for now. And last is a sweet little green wicker tray I picked up at the GW yesterday for 1.99. I had to cut broken pieces out of the handles. I don't know if it's old,it's certainly a 40s kind of green, but then so are a lot of things lately. I set my Million Bells I got on clearance yesterday in an old chamber pot,and placed it on the tray with a bunny. It's out on the porch on the coffee table.

Kudzukween, every time I see pics of your stuff I just wanna come over and hang out! The colors you choose are always so cheerful and at the same time, restful. My garden and assesories tends to be kind of brash. It's colorful and fun, but your place looks like a place I'd like to go to wind down from a hard days work! Everything is lovely. Kathy

I love those spindle planters. How did you attach the pots? I have a couple of spindles and would like to borrow your idea.

OOooohhh, thanks ya'll,that's so nice of you to say! I copied Sewigardnut on the spindle planters:)So thanks goes to her for the idea! This time I used 4 galvanized buckets I bought for .97 each. I cut a small piece off the bottom of the spindle. I used cheap white school glue as a basecoat to get the crackle look. I sprayed with clear sealer when the paint dried. And I couldn't find the set of drill bits so I just used a screw to make pilot holes for the eye screws to hang them from at the top,and it looked like short sheet rock screws I used to attach the buckets to the spindles. Unless you're good at math, just eyeball where you want them to go! I didn't put drain holes in these buckets either, they had plastic liners in them, but you could use a screw or drill bit to make one in the bottom. Right now I can't find any flowers to plant in them. Maybe I should go with herbs...

    OH SO Creative!!!!

How did you attach the top set? They look like Terra Cotta to me. Screwing the little metal pails is a good idea.

I agree with all of the above. I always love to see your posts because you have such great ideas and everything always looks so nice. What a wonderful porch you have with the gingerbread trim and all your wicker. Your little tray arrangement is just the perfect accessory! ;o) Luvs

Thank you all SO MUCH for the nice compliments! We worked so hard on the porch, and not so much inside the house:)My DH tells everyone that I've been rat-packing junk for years just waiting for the day I'd have a porch, and sure enough, everything had a place and he loves it and shows it off to his buddies:)

Those are terra cotta pots, and they came with holes in them. I thought they must have hung from a nice board or something decorative. I was going to hang them on a beautiful piece of twisted driftwood, but when I went to dig it out,it was buried under other driftwood and there's a wasps nests out there,so I said "you win" to the wasps and gave that idea up real fast! I didn't feel like running out behind the house for more driftwood,so I made a spindle hanger instead:)
I bet you could use the glass drill bit to make a hole in a terra cotta pot, although I haven't tried it myself. I may go test that out on an old pot. I know DH drills through ceramic plates, and it looks easy to do! If I do that,I'll add another pic of it:)

    Kudzuk,

Very lovely indeed!! Can I suggest turning your spindle upside down?? Than the pots will hang from the squared section of the spindle and the rounded section will be on top. I think the rounded section is nicer and seeing it would enhance your design. Just a suggestion.
