Contact the greenskeeper at local golf courses. They usually can tell you where someone can get a reel mower sharpened.

You could buy a Dremel tool with sharpening stone and sharpen the blade yourself without too much difficulty.

Word of caution: If you go after it with a Dremel, your next purchase is going to be a $400 reel and $200 bedknife.

Daystrom has good advice. Because there are so few reel mowers in the hands of private owners and commercial gardeners, there are fewer and fewer shops which do reel sharpening. Therefore a golf course mechanic might be able to point you in the right direction.

Would further suggest that you make sure the shop will do a "relief" grind. Cheaper and easier is a "spin" grind, but reel doesn't last as long, and "spin" is not as suitable for back lapping. If the shop has Foley, Fate-Root-Heath, or Neary equipment, they should be able to do a "relief" job.

I'm assuming yours is home use, maybe 50 to 75 hours/year. Under these circumstances, a full grind should be good for 3 to 5 years, with an annual backlapping every year.

We had a knife shop do all of our sharpening at the shop.
Those guys were good and the price was worth it. I recommend someone who has the equipment and knowledge to do it.

Hey Dan, who sharpened it for you? Was it Alan or did you find someone else? Curious because I picked up another power reel that could use a grinding.

Alan did it for me, awful nice fella....and knows his chit :)

Good day, Dan

Alan really went the extra mile on my tru cut, replaced some bolts and sprocket keys etc. since the reel was past its half life he was going to try to get me a new reel & bedknife through the golf course for cheap.

Okgrassguy is did you ever find a service center to sharpen your reel mower?

I am also in central Florida

okgrassguy has not been on the site for 10 years .
