I didn't realize it was a problem, and I don't know that I have an answer, but have you tried freezing them? Many things in nature require a chilling period or a certain amount of aging or freezing before they will germinate, since to germinate in the fall would likely doom the shoot.

I don't know what you know, but you should be aware that your pear seedling will almost certainly not be a good replication of the pear you got it from, and will take years and years before it blooms; pears are known for this! So if you're hoping to acquire a certain variety from your seedlings you are not likely to accomplish that. Not to say you won't have anything worthwhile, just not possible to say what, nor when.

Good luck,

M

Put them in a fridge for a couple months. Then you should have near 100% germination. The freezer may be too cold but I know the fridge works because I have a nursery of baby pear trees to prove it.
