screen door ideas

I recently acquired a wooden screen door. Can you help with ideas on what I can do with it. Please post pictures.

I won't using it as a screen door on my house and I don't have a shed or anything. Although I will be getting a small shed soon.

I would just like some ideas for inspiration or at least a reason to keep hold of it. TIA

    Hi Flutterby~

Well, you could paint the screen in some decorative picture or pattern, you could use it as a center portion of a trellis, or you could also use it as part of a vinyette in your garden. I know that there are some on this site, but for the life of me, I couldn't find what I was looking for. If I do, I'll post again. Let us see what you decide!

i saw a screen door used as a gate in a wooden fence and i have been trying to get my dh to fix me one.

The oldest most unique hardware you can find will make it so special. I got a brass Kick-plate from a resale shop and will install it on the bottom of my screen door. I bought handles shaped like leaves/vines, and painted the wood framing brick red. If you want to use it as a trellis in the garden remove the screening and replace it with lattice. Pictures unavailable until after Christmas! Love the idea of stenciling on the screen!

I used an old screen door I was gifted as a trellis. I attached chicken wire to it and drilled holes in the bottom to attach rebar. That way it's up off of the ground. This is an old picture as the plant has REALLY grown since then. I receive LOTS of compliments on it. Here's a picture. Kirk

Kirk, Your's is perfect & I like your other wall decoration too!! I was going to suggest that if hers is plain she add some braces with curves & then you showed the same thing. Gives it personality. A pretty color like yours adds to the charm! The rebar is a great idea to make it last longer. I think you covered it beautifully Kirk!! Post pic flutterby when you get it done!! Jan

I just happened to find this idea right here on gardenweb, I thought I'd show it to you.

Has anyone ever seen a screen door or window where the screening material was used as cross stitch fabric? That could be pretty neat, don't ya think?

organicflutterby ... I haven't tried cross-stitching on a screen...but that could be pretty neat...wonder what could be used so it would stay good outside??? Have to think on that...some of this jewelry wire might work...it comes in colors...HMMM.

Anyway, I did do this on basement screens last Christmas for my two DD's...used felt and just stitched them on...came out pretty good...but for indoor decor. Jeanne S.

Lovely door kirk, and nice idea jeannespines.
As far as cross stitchon screen, can one still buy that gimp stuff that girl scouts made lanyards out of decades ago? It was plastic narrow and flexible. Another thought is to use fishing wire to string beads onto the screen.
We have some old screen doors in the top of our garage.
I've been holding out to use one of them as the back of a potting bench. Or both maybe. Or sides of my planned arbor up back.
The inspiration album, which I don't know how to access a link to from here, has screen door uses in it.

Wow butterfly, there's some great ideas for ya.

Kirk, great use as a trellis, the chicken wire would work great for vines. Got a pic with the vine on it?

And Miss Jeanne, that snowman screen is just the greatest! Lucky daughters!
