Never would have figured that for birdhouse. Looks mighty inviting, would think you'll soon have full house. Hope you have some shade up on your hill. I lost a little bird half grown & I think it was the sun hitting the ivy in late afternoon last yr as it was over 100 for 20 days. They always nest there so I think it was the heat & late afternoon sun he just couldn't take. The blue glass & pottery you have there is beautiful too., Love that blue star dish!! Jan

wow, good idea...and it has a cedar lining...they will like that...might keep down the mites, lol. I bet you could make one out of a smaller jewelry box also. But I am surprised to see a birdhouse without a license plate or something on it....lol. Great color.

I've read a lot on Purple Martins this year. They like communal living (such as your bird condo's and multi roomed apartments). But they need to be pretty high up off of the ground. And "twomonths" you are totally right about how fortunate the birds will be with a cedar lining. Some folks put cedar chips in before the birds come each year. So now we are talking about a pure luxuary bird condo that you've built here. So creative!!!!

Susie's right, Purple Martins would be perfect there, and yes their house has to be in the 16' to 20' range mounted. DH put a big post in concrete into the ground in a previous home to mount a martin house.

Eastern Bluebird's prefer their front door facing east in order to get the gentle early morning sun, as it helps warm the nest on cool mornings. But later in the day when the sun is really hot, it won't shine through the front door if the birdhouse is facing east. I'm not sure about other species, but the bluebirds thrive this way. Sorry to hear about your bird Sunny, awwww.... poor wittle birdie ... those hot days are rough on little creatures like that!

Beautiful Bird Condo! Purple Martims love communal living but they also like to be higher in the air. Most birds want the protection of higher nestings options because it cuts the predator attacks down. Are you going to be able to mount it on a pole or a higher wall of some kind? I do hope it will be occupied very soon.

Thanks, It's amazing that with all the crap in my yard, I couldn't leave that thing in the trash. It's fun to finish something once in a while, lol.
June, I'm tempted to trash it up, but may leave it alone. It doesn't even look like something I made. I'm working on Snow White and the (2) Dwarfs costumes for Halloween right now for DGKs. The big pumpkin patch is at Cal Poly Pomona this weekend, and we're taking them. Linda

Linda, I forgot to ask you what kind of paint you used on this. Did you sand it first? And what kind of sealer? Thanks in advance!

Countrygrl, I use exterior primer (Zinsser) and paints, just like you paint your house with. I get it in the mis mix section at HD, Lowes, or find it at Habitat Restores as well as in the trash behind stores, etc. Here in California, there are SOOO many regulations about how you're allowed to throw anything away, so many people just dump it where they can get away with it. It's good for us, lol.

I sprayed underneath this with a can of car undercoating (get it at auto supply stores), so if it ever collects water underneath, it can't soak in. Someone here suggested it a while back and it works really well. It can also be painted. Linda

Another wonderful creation! You are the queen of reusing finds. I would have never thought to us it as a bird condo. It's so colorful. The birdies are goina love it.
