Bicycle Built For Two

Here is my bicycle built for two. I used rust colored primer to make it appear rusty. This pic was taken after a windy storm so moss is coming out of the baskets. I planted pansies in the baskets.

Love your bike! The faux rust is gorgeous.
I bought a bike for $25 at a garage sale to "ride" in my garden. That might have been too much to pay for a piece of junk but I've been looking for one for quite awhile. I need to get out in the yard & anchor it down. I'm having trouble with wanting to get out in my bleak, brown gardens.

I have thought of several ideas for this bike. This Spring I plan to paint it a pale yellow and fill the baskets with Spring Flowers. But my ultimate goal is to wrap the bike with Raffia and bamboo. If you Google Bamboo Bike you will see what inspired me. There is a garden shop that has one as a year around display and it is a Jaw Dropper!!!!

Love you bike and your porch.
googling bamboo bike brings up hundreds of sites about bicycles with bamboo frames and how they are the latest thing, useful in Africa etc. I tried adding "garden shop" but nothing.

    Kathy,

I'm so sorry. The garden shop is here locally. I go into the shop just to visit that bike. They say "Can I help you"? I just say "I just came in to breath in the inspiration"! I saw their bike and went home and googled it. Those bikes look so organic. I had no idea that bamboo was that strong. They are using frames to make the bamboo grow into the shapes to make the bikes different parts. Since my bike will not be ridden I am hoping to attach the bamboo of different sizes over the bars. Other grasses will be wrapped around more difficult areas.

Hey Susie, this looks familiar - here's mine - I spray painted it rusty too. These things are beasts, aren't they? Big and heavy! I used wire desk baskets lined with cocoa mat and wired them on.

Love it! And your front porch is picture perfect! Love the jardinaire (sp) by the front door.

Will you be decorating the bicycle with Christmas decor, too?

Both bikes are wonderful! Plus it is great to see some green. I am seeing way too much white this time of year!

I did like concreteprimroses and tried googling bamboo bikes. Never knew there were actual bikes made from bamboo! lol!

    Arlene,

It was your pic that inspired me!!!!!! Yours is so much more vintage looking!!! We bought our bike to decorate for a 4th of July parade. The seat was painfull to sit on!!! There was no way I was going to ride that thing in a parade. The seats are original so I didn't want to rob it of it's humble vintage look. When I saw yours and others on the web I knew that I had to cancel the parade idea and make a planter.

We have decided not to decorate this Christmas (First time ever). What are your ideas to decorate the bike/planter for Christmas? Next year I hope to go all out as usual.

I didn't decorate the bicycle for Christmas, Susie - it is just sitting forlornly in my flower bed waiting for spring....

Here's another shot from last year - yikes, not ready for this yet...
