faces

these are some faces I made out of cement and a Halloween mask.The one with the 'pitted' face was my first one.I used clear stones in her eyes.Although her complexion is a little rough I think it gives her character.The other one is a little better and I used flat colored stones for her eyes.All in all I have made at least five so far with the one I gave my sister being the best one.She has a mocha skin tone and very smooth.I sprayed a glaze over them.I plan to plant mine in the yard with something growing around her head for 'hair'.{{gwi:199338}}

They are going to look so cool in your garden! Love "Your Girls" !!

Wow, these are great! I love them.

So what kind of Halloween mask did you use? And did you use just regular cement like you'd mix up for a post hole or something?

I made some concrete balls once when we had some cement left over and they turned out nice, I don't know why I don't mix some up more often. Easy and gives a great result.

The glass eyes are cool. Thanks for posting. This is definetely on my to do list. I want to pour some garden friends, too!

Those are too cool. I can see them now with some moss hair in the garden. What a creative idea.

I mixed it up just like for a cement leaf. One cups of sand with two cups Portland cement. The mask I bought from walmart. I had to tape up the eyes, nose and mouth. The tape held the stones in place till I could cover it all with cement.I used a dremel on the eyes later to remove some of the cement. Before I could pour the cement I had to place the mask in sand in a plastic container. The sand helped me shape the mask and stabilized it while drying.

They are cool, but they would most like scare the pudding out of me when I was not paying attention!!

Good Job!!! Love em...especially the first gal!!!ha!

What a process, doodys! You did a great job on these! And you certainly did give both of them "character!" They will be awesome in your garden ...but, like Marlene, they would take me by surprise sometimes! TFS! Jeanne S.

They are both awesome! But like marlene_2008 said, they'd probably scare the bejesus out of me if I wasn't paying attention. I'd think someone was buried in the garden and only their face was showing. Can you tell I watch too many crime shows about serial killers? lol I'd love to see them in your garden. I bet they will look very cool amongst the greenery. Am I the only one who can't wait for spring? he-he

I think they should be looking out of a hole in a tree. Theyare great!

Dang, I knew I should have purchased that clearance Halloween mask I saw at Wmart!! I love this idea. So many variations are possible..they could be painted different shades of green and be really earthy fairies of a sort too. Love the idea of moss hair or maybe some sedum. Definitely going into my "inspiration folder".

So the concrete is layered on top of the mask? How thick and what keeps it from cracking. I like your faces. There is a concrete head at a local business that I like that costs about $100 I'm too cheap to buy it.

They are about three inches thick and I just poured them in the mold which was supported by sand all the way around it.I sprayed it first with cooking spray to help it come out it easier.I have not yet put it out.I'm waiting on Springtime.

Nice faces. It sounds like you also hang out in the Hypertufa forum.

Very nice! My grand daughter says they look like masks of Michael Jackson's face, especially the one on the right.
