Soil Test Results

I finally got the results from my soli test. It says to apply:

5.1 lbs of Sulfur/1000 sq ft

1 lb of Phosphorus/1000 sq ft

1 lb of Potassium/1000 sq ft

I am renovating my lawn and have actually seeded this past Monday 8-27, can I apply these amendments now? Also when I seed I used a synthetic starter fertilizer, I imagine that does not count towards these recommendations?

Your starter fertilizer DOES count towards those recommendations. Do not use sulfur at those rates unless you till it into the soil, so don't do it. Do not lime ever again. Introduce organic material into your soil by mulching all your autumn leaves and/or topdressing with a good compost. Switch to organic fertilizers. These practices will bring your PH back towards neutral naturally. If you choose chemicals, then use 12-12-12 or something like that to gradually raise the P and the K in your soil. Bill Hill

billhill, I have never applied any lime, and I am DEFINITELY going to be using organics in the future. I should have mentioned that my orgainc matter was 2.8%.

So should I not worry about the PH for now? Or the phosphotous and potassium? Or should I apply sulfur at under 5 lbs/1000? Or if I can get iron sulfate?

I just want to make sure that this lawn renovation goes as good as possible?

    Thanks!!

I am sure you don't want to be walking on your newly seeded lawn for awhile. Please what is the PH ? and if you are going Organic, then I would definitely say "don't worry about the PH Bill Hill

What is the PH? Besides it is way to late to correct PH for planting now. If you are truly going 100% organic, then there is no need for soil test or worrying about PH. 100% organics is blind faith.

All you need for now is just a balanced ferlizer in 1-1-1 ratio.

    The soil PH was 7.4

And yes I will be going organic, I have two bags of 11-2-2 ready to go.

I thought you were in about 7.5 range with such a small amount of sulfur recommendation. 7.4 isnÂt even enough to bat an eye over.

FWIW the 11-2-2 fertilizer isnÂt what you need. You need balanced right now of 1-1-1 something like 10-10-10, 15-15-15, or 20-20-20. For organic ratio for later use you want to get as close to a 3-1-2 ratio as you can possible get your hands on.

texas-weed, thank you. I imagine that I cannot do anything right now as I should not walk on the freshly seeded lawn.

Should I do anything before this winter, or will the ground be to cold by the time it is okay to walk on? KBG seeded this past Monday.

If you just seeded and put out a starter fertilizer, all you need to do is water.

Going forward, use a balanced fertilizer in about a month to bring the rest of your nutrients in line and then use whatever other type you want going forward. One caution - don't be tempted by anything organic that says "mushroom" on it - like mushroom soil, mushroom compost etc. You will see that sold at most landscaping or box stores, but it isn't for you. When they grow mushrooms, they use lime in the organic mix. For people with acidic soils, that is an added benefit. For you, it would make your PH worse.

Bill I am sorry but you are dead wrong. Organics is a blind faith and anything labeled organic is good as the word of the LORD.
