I can't speak for the Xt with this condition. I've had the Briggs auto choke on the quantum with sticky chokes. I lubed both and they stayed working, seems strange I know- but corrosion was present. The other issue I had was a loose muffler causing it to bind. These also had a revised choke plate. It was in this years service school notes if I remember correctly.

That was the 1st thing I tried nothing was jamed or sticky. This is a wierld set-up a plate and spring heats up at the muffer and the spring opens wide open making it impossible to start even if the engine hot and it does not close completly when the engine is cold. I am thinking of adding a manul cable to operate the choke or a primer bulb at the carburator. It is also strange Kohler does not show this on thier service maual.

I called a local Lawnmower parts supplier and they have sold a few "choke coils" they also indicated that there is no adjustment must be replaced. I think I will add a cable to operate the choke or add a primer bulb. The choke coil is $60 a bit expensive when a $5 primer bulb will work for 10 years or so.

I suppose that would be the correct repair- but $60 for a pull off! I wonder if you could pull it apart and attempt a repair? What is there to lose? Is their a place for a primer on this carb too? I got a carb complete for one that was trashed and I remember there were like 4 to choose from. What is the spec #?

Yes there is a Kohler Service Manual on the Kohler website that devotes 3 pages to the workings of this carb/choke assembly!
