Garden Party Four-Legged Friends

OK, here's my contribution to get the GP wheels grinding along again...

Seems to me that the subject of cats & dogs was always an appealing one, with much enthusiastic discussion and follow-up. So here's a little snapshot of the new kid in my own pack.

Oliver Wesley Catt (yes, with two t's because it adds a bit of a flourish to his last name lol) is a big, burly, good-natured, all-black boy. He's been with me for almost 18 months. Quite the charmer, he is. Loves to follow me around. Oliver would sit on my lap if he weren't so big. Unfortunately parts of him keep sliding off my lap and that bugs him. lol So he compromises by lying on the floor and using my feet as a sort of backstop.

"Oliver, get the mousy!" is his cue to RUN to the kitchen, where toy mousies live in a special drawer. He has me trained to throw said mousy over and over and over, so he can chase them.

Oliver isn't allowed into the common hallway outside my foor. But he never got that memo. Sometimes he bolts outside, tail dancing in the air behind him just like Pepe LePew from Looney Toons. Absolutely hilarious.

I am technically challenged and don't know how to post a photo of him. But of course he is the most beautiful long-haired kitty who ever was.

OK, who's next? Who is the newest (or funniest, furriest, whatever-est) four-legged family member in your house?

Karen

I finally broke down 2 months ago and was adopted by another kitten. When he came to live with us he was only 8 weeks old....its been 14 yrs since we had a kitten in the house and we forgot they thrive on chaos. Those 1st few days had us saying the old "what we were thinking" line but he was so darn cute he was forgiven. Except by Chuck, our 14 yr old, grump...who went from being facinated by him to pure loathing. We settled on the name Eddie...Eddie Haskel,Eddie Munster(monster)..both personalities meet his behavior. He gets so worked he spits like a little bobcat...which doesnt impress Chuck one bit. But we do catch them napping together so im not too worried about Chucks ego.
Even though hes only been with us for a short while we are so in love with him. He is an adorable orange marmalade cat with bit pointy ears and very loving. And i must add im so proud of Chuck for allowing him to play with his tail to his hearts content...reminds me of daddy lions and their cubs.

I often speak of Gussie, the dog and my pride of felines: Sooty, Taffy, Maximus and Jasmyn, so in all fairness I like to introduce my caprine friends, all five of them: Boots and Raja are the altered boys, Daphne, Lucy and Shirley the female part of the group.
There were four, the two boys, Daphne and Chloe, a Mt. Lion took Chloe and the three were not only mourning, two boys and one girl were not a good situation, so someone was giving a pair away and we got them, they are quite the personality kids. It took a week or so before they became a real group, but now they eat, play and sleep together. A lot of fun to observe their inter actions, they all allow touching them, but basically they are wild.
As long as they do their job: vegetation control on a steep hill, they can be as wild as they wish to be.
I am also technically challenged as far as posting pictures go, but it's not difficult to do on Facebook and they let me post a link to other sites, take a look.

For the first time in my life I am owned by a dog. One day a customer came by my store with her dog in the car. When I inquired about him, she said that she was on the way to the animal shelter with him. A single woman with two jobs, she had no time for him. I am a sucker for the underdog whether it be human or animal. He came home with me that day and became my Henry. Shadow would probably have been a more appropriate name because he's mine. If I turned around quickly, he'd run into me. He is a mixture of schnauzer and yorkie and the love of my life. He is a most wonderful pet--no faults but one. He's a picky eater.
I like to think that he is a gift of divine providence. He came to me the year that I lost my mother and my last child went away to the military. I really needed him as much as he needed me. He settled quickly into the empty nest and into my heart as well. What a treasure that
came to me by pure happenstance!

What a great story, sweet betsy, and how lucky you and Henry are to have found each other in such a serendipitous way.

I am down to one cat, Mrs. Darcy, so named when we found out that the cat we thought was male turned out to be female and we just added the "Mrs." to keep things simple. She's such a scaredy-cat! But I love her all the same and am grateful for any affection she shows me--which is not a lot, haha.

Thanks, Karen, my old neighbor to the south...
I have two cats, plus one on an extended visit. It's the littlest one that runs the show. The Grey One is a fantastic communicator. I know when he wants something good from the refrigerator, when he wants out, when he wants to tunnel under the blanket, and when he wants to get amorous with a sock. I especially love that he shows off--running up and down a tree when a visitor comes, or showing how great he is at chasing some little piece of lint. When it comes to other cats, he's a benevolent dictator. And we are most definitely his slaves. My other, big black cat sounds more like Pidge's. The doorbell sends him scurrying under the bed, and no one ever sees him except us. But his eyes are the color of the Caribbean, and he will forever be my kitten.

We used to have a dog and several cats but we don't have any animals at this time, but we are not out of the mix. Our next door neighbor to the left, has a big old black and white kitty that roams our yard. Neighbor on the right, adopted a couple of kitty brothers, at eight months they are small and skinny. They also like our yard. Black and white kitty apparently feels that they are a threat to his domain so he stalks and chases them at every opportunity. Even into their own house. Eventually, the fight ends up in our yard.

My owner is Midnight, a stray who ended up with me when she was about 8 month old. Now she is 7. Although shy around strangers, she bosses me around and I am just 3 days out of the doghouse, she has been mad at me for a week because I took HER Christmas tree away, she lived under it.

I am really liking these tales of animals owning their humans! DH and I joined that group almost two years' ago, when we brought our son's cat to our house, b/c he had a serious health problem and couldn't care for it. It was supposed to be a temporary situation, but there's no way we'd give Maggie back! Plus son still couldn't care for her, properly. But I have thought that if God wanted us to have a cat, He didn't have to go to such drastic measures to make sure we got one!

P.S. A month or two ago, Robin very kindly posted a picture of Maggie for me on the GP. I, too, am technically challenged about such things.

Attempt two, first attempt just errased by my "wonderful" pup Theo. I adopted him from a rescue group I found through petfinder. After I lost my Spud to cancer I wanted a pup so that I wouldn't have to face that again
for a very long time. Made sense at the time. I can totaly understand the above post of "what was I thinking" There are moments like when I fell in the snow and on his own he came running to find out what happend, to other
moments when he chewed the cord to the vacume cleaner twice... He is black, fluffy, and loves to climb up and lie on my side and lay his head near mine. I have said many times since he arrived its a very good thing your cute cause otherwise to the moon you bratt! But despite the loss of several socks, a calcultor and a few other non important items he is worth it and I wouldn't give him up for the world. (but Im looking foward to getting past the puppy stage) Today on the radio they started a serries about dogs. They had an author Katt or Catts was his last name speaking about his dog Rosie. He had written a fictional book about her. He thinks very differently about dogs then most. I didn't seem that he feels that dogs have emotions or that they love their owners. He felt that we as humans assigned emotions that we want to see in our pets. Rather then what is really going on. That dogs are responding not because they feel but a learned behavoiur or instinct. He called it the disneyification of animals. I can see his point a little bit but I still know that animals feel emotion just not same as us. They had a couple of other people speaking about how dogs see or rather smell and hear the wold. It was an insteresting topic with a lot of different information, Im looking forward to the rest of the serries. Here are a couple of recent pics of my boy. I gave in to the preasure and dressed him up at Christmas. He thought it was fun getting that stupid hat off and running away with it. (he is a cocker spaniel somthing cross- his daddy was a wondering heartbreaker who didn't stick around long enough to get his breed)

Ann, I'm still your neighbor to the south. Just a little "farther" south now. :o) Go to the REALTORS building and then head east toward Navy Pier. That's where you'll find me.

The little black and white poodle that runs our lives
is named Sassi. She helps me keep the road hot that leads to Atlanta because that's where her Ophthalmologist has an office. Sassi had a cataract removed and a lens implant.
She is so spoiled that I am ashamed to tell you all the things she has us doing to make her life easier.

Those of us lucky enough to have a special pet to share our lives are very blessed. They love and accept us, entertain us with their antics and amaze us with their intelligence.

Karen your Oliver sounds exactly like our cat Puddy. I still miss him so much.

I have a black and white cat who is about ten months old. She is a tuxedo kitty, I had never heard that term before she came to live with me.My family can't understand why I indulge her so, but she is such good company and I have come to love her.She is asleep in my lap as I write this. Her name is Pandora.

I'll try to figure out how to post photos here.

We have little zebra finches, rescue dogs Taffy and Rudy, and three indoor cats.

Lulu is the boss of the house, a chubby white and black kitty girl.

Buddy is her shy, pale orange boyfriend. Sweet and soft as a chinchilla.

Jazzpurr is a gray striped boy, who is hopelessly devoted to me. He tells us all kinds of stories, but we can't understand his pronunciation.

Maggie has truly come out of her shell so lovingly. She's much happier. Honestly, it came about in full force once Bijou the cat on FUR-lough left last month. She's just so snuggly every night and every morning. I still can't get her to sit in my lap in the evenings, but she loves to be in bed, so I'll settle. I hate to throw her out when I have to to to sleep, but she's a love hog! Such a myriad of hues and lengths of fur. I have never seen a cat with short thick black fur, dotted in white long fur??? It's cool. Keegan kitty had copper-tipped fur, and I had never seen that before. I just love fluffer doodles.

I just love to bury my face in the fluffy fluff she is.
