Did you do an internet search? You might have to mailorder it.

Yeah, I found some over the Internet, but the shipping costs were killer that's why I was hoping to find some locally.

Yes, I know what you mean. I had the same deal when I was looking for bat guano. Try the phone book look up local nursery centers or landscape suppliers. We have two locally here in Texas that I know of. One is called Garden Ville the other is the Natural Gardner. I wish I could help you more.

Even if your local feed stores don't have it on hand, perhaps they could order it for you. My local feed store doesn't carry alfalfa meal but they order it for me at no extra charge.

Why do you need crab meal?

It is a good source of Chitin, supposedly also high in silicates as well. Do you have a compost pile, and is there a red lobster near you? heheheh, use your imagination. RD

Did you ever find your crab meal?

A local company, Soil Secrets, makes crab meal. I bought a large bag, which required buying a second product to compliment the crab meal. The stuff was expensive, cost me about $50. Considering how poor my soil was in the first place, I have not been able to determine how much of a difference the products made. I have continually been adding a variety of amendments. Since the purpose of using the Soil Secrets products is to establish beneficial microorganisms, I figured a single application would be enough to get things going. As long as I continue to compost regularly to provide food for a good soil ecosystem.

I found crab meal from a company in Alabama called Mighty Grow Organics. Their website is www.mightygrow.com. From what I could gather it is not a product they manufacture, but just bag and sell. I actually found them while looking for crab meal on alibaba.com.

They also have a poultry litter fertilizer that they do manufacture and after talking with the lady in the office I found out they will be offering other organic soil amendments for the spring. Their web site is not that great but from what I was told they are in the process of updating it.

For what it's worth.
