Growing in perlite??

Anyone growing orchids in perlite only? Reason asking is that I recently lost an ONC. and think lost a Little Stars. The onc. developed bulb rot-pulled apart and took off what pieces looked viable(duh-like I know)dunked them in H2O2 and sprinkled with cinnamon-have them in baggies right now with no media. The little stars lost all its leaves turned dark and fell off-took what was left and repotted into bark. The Onc . roots looked fine but all the pseudo-bulbs were rotting. They were in a south window with some catts that I have.Think this happened when the temps dropped to -20 to -26 up here .That window must have been pretty cold and I had recently watered them all. At the time I was more interested in my pipes not freezing and forgot about the plants. Took all the cats.out of that window and at present have them under an aero-gro light in my bedroom which is a lot warmer.
Should I put what is left of the ONC. and the little stars in
Perlite ????
Have some other questions but will post separate.
