If the little bit of spike has a little bump or two you might get the spike to grow from there, otherwise you will have to wait till the plant grows a new spike.

Although this spike may be done the orchid still has the energy built up to flower. A spike may emerg elsewhere before another year.

Try a blooming fertilizer to help with regrowing a spike. I wait until after the blooming cycle to repot an orchid. There are a few good books out there to help you learn more about your orchid. Good luck with your orchid

The real answer is to buy more orchids. From one to 2, to 4 and so forth. Once you have 50, which the average person can achieve in a year, you should always have something in spike. Problem solved.
