WOW!!! Just goes to show what judging a book by its cover will get you. Think of the guts of the lady. And did you her her say she's never been kissed? "Typical English spinster" and just wait til she opens her mouth........Unbelievable, thanks for that, friend, it did me a world of good....Batya

I saw that last night. It's awesome.

I also saw the video of the little 6 year old girl singing Somehwere Over the Rainbow, with perfect pitch!

How dare they hide that tiger under a rock for so long. What an appropriate song for her to sing. Well done. Amanda was right, a real privilege to hear her. Why are they hiding such awesome talent. Let us hear more Paul! More Susan! What are they waiting for?

Wonderful!!! Reminds me to never take any one for granted.

That was great! Thanks. She was so thrilled. Nice.

Talk about knocking your socks off!

It brought tears to my eyes.

    I was moved to tears.

They showed this on "The View" this morning and it really made me stop & think about how that I, despite my outward protestations to the contrary, have a gut reaction to the way a person looks. When I first saw her come out on the stage, I was all ready for her to be ridiculous. However, the moment she started to sing, I was thoroughly ashamed of myself. I need to remind myself that talent has absolutely nothing to do with looks.

Andie, you weren't alone with your first reaction. The judges admitted that they, too, expected her to be a joke. She fooled them all, didn't she? What a glorious gift from God. I hope she's able to make a CD or something. Wouldn't it be wonderful to hear her and the man who sang so superbly a few months ago, sing together?

I'm trying so hard not to be judgmental, but it seems that it's almost instinctive. At least, I'm more aware of it than I used to be. When I find myself thinking that way, I stop, or try to, anyway.

She already is being signed to a record deal by Simon.
It seems he has a record company. That's what I read anyway.

It just makes my day when good things happen to folks that deserve it.

Susan Boyle and Paul Potts are so talented and deserve
to have every chance to share those extraordinary talents with the world.

I think a lot of us expect physical attractiveness to go hand-in-hand with talent, because with the advent of 'movies' and television you couldn't make it with one or the other. You had to have both.

Thank God I'm old enough to remember radio or lived a good part of my formative life without access to a television. I'd like a hundred dollar bill for every ordinary looking radio star who was replaced in their own programs by a 'looker' when the series was picked up by television. Or by the same token, when every beautiful silent screen star fell by the wayside when talkies came along because they sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard. We are simply used to 'the package' they market now.

The DH and I attended opera for some years in the big city as our special treat. Some of the leading men and women aren't exactly supermodels, and with help of opera glasses, you'd laugh at their appearances too playing romantic leads. So it never occurred to me to think this woman couldn't sing, or she'd never have made it as far as she did in the auditions.

I loved her voice, btw, because I am a contralto. I have lived for years with an attitude, because all the best roles and many of the most beautiful songs seem to go to sopranos, some of whom sound like high pitched lumber saws.

I didn't think her ugly, either. Just in need of an eyebrow tweeze and a good hairstyle. Paul Potts, ditto, just needed a good tux and a tooth cap.

I thought the judges reaction was the greatest. Talk about surprise. Steve in Baltimore County.

I have to agree with you Steve. It was thrilling to watch Simon the ultimate cynic, completely enthralled with her. It was really genuine.

Just saw brief news clips of this singer and heard some of the comments.. I remembered Barbra Streisand's debut (on Ed Sullivan?) and the sniping...she was very young and I always admired her for not giving in to the suggestions for a nose job.

Susan Boyle had a twinkle in her eye as if she KNEW she was going to knock'em dead with her amazing voice. I think too that she probably has a good bit of inner poise which allowed her to talk openly about her quiet life. I hope she'll continue to march to her own drummer, wherever that might lead her..even if to a "makeover" if that's what she herself desires.

Can't help thinking though of a beautiful young boy singer and his sad seeking for what he thought was necessary to be even more attractive in addition to his marvelous talent...

Susan doing Cry Me a River.

Her voice and talent is extraordinary.

Can't hardly wait for an album or cd, or whatever they are calling them these days. Love the torch songs.

Thanks Dorph for bringing this to our attention. Missy is eager to get her first cd and blast the neighborhood with it. I think that she has wowed the world and put a new tilt to it.

I was thinking about how as technology has advanced and the look of the performer has become as important as their talent, or even more so, the performers of times past came to mind. There was Frank Fontaine as Crazy Guggenheim on the Jackie Gleason Show and Jim Nabors as Gomer Pyle on the Andy Griffith Show. These guys played on their looks and surprised us with their talent. There are more out there that do not fit today's "standards" I am sure and I do not bring this up to diminish the talent that Miss Boyle possesses, I think she is great. I just wonder what we all miss due to presupposition and judging people without looking or listening.

When I listened to Cry me a River, I couldn't believe that
sultry voice was the Susan Boyle of the I Dreamed a Dream.
    It just sounded so different.
Her life is forever changed and I hope for her it will be a wonderful experience. The money will be a plus but the
media hounds can be brutal as we've witnessed time and time again.

My money is on this talented Scottish woman.
She'll soon be singing for the Queen.
I think she can handle it.

Dorph, thanks for the link. It's a treat listening to her.

Talent comes in all sizes, doesn't it?
My Aunt Betty had season tickets for the Frankfurt Opera, they were discounted tickets for the full Dress Rehearsals, which took place in the afternoon, and she took me many times, I saw a lot of Opera before I ever saw a movie.
Many of the performers are not the standard attractive "star", but once they start to sing, one forgets that.
    Pavarotti comes to mind.

Lilo, opera is a very good analogy. Opera singers are not generally known for their good looks - they are revered for the glory of their glorious voices.

It's changed a bit these days - a lot of them, the women in particular, are not so large as in years gone by, but being beautiful is still not the criteria for getting hired at La Scala or The Met.

Thank you so much for the link!!! Don sent me a link on the 14th and I have watched her every day...usually several times a day! I still tear up almost everytime I hear her sing, what an awesome voice! I am really looking forward to getting a cd, hope it will be soon!
