Happy Day!!!

The first hummingbird of the year just knocked on my family room window to let me know he's here.

Gotta go fill up those feeders.

Hummingbirds! That's so exciting. I've got awhile yet before I see any of those. The robins are out full force. I'm just thrilled that we're going to hit 60 degrees today and it's sunny.

Yay! They've been in your neck of the woods for a while, Blondie! I've been waiting for one of you Southerners to comment. ;o)

Chin up, Nicole. They'll be here by Beltaine. I promise. The {{gwi:153486}} has been out in full force in my yard since the Monday after Easter. The {{gwi:153487}} faster than the bunnies can eat them, and the rest can't be far behind...

They've been here since the end of February. I'm beginning to think I shouldn't even take the feeders down. One of my friends here had one who stayed all winter. They are just amazing!

I've had my feeders out for awhile but here in the city
    I haven't seen one yet. :0)

    Jaz,
    Thanks for the site.
    I had forgotten about it.
I reported my sighting...it was the first in my area.
There have been some reported about 50 miles east of me.

    Andie,
The hummingbird experts in my area ask that we keep the feeders up at least 6-8 weeks after the last sighting.
Because our area is so warm in the winter, some of the old ones or ones separated from the group migrating south will stay over the winter.
These experts band hummingbirds twice a year on Dauphin Island.

    jan,
I bet if you keep your feeders out that you will have them before you know it.
It's amazing how they know where to come back.
It took about two years of keeping the feeders filled and plantings they like before I got any on a regular basis.
Now, they will fly back and forth in front of the family room picture window like they're telling me to get the feeders up.
I've never had the number of birds you had at your lake home.
    That was unbelievable!!

I saw one yesterday morning at the feeder in front of Katrina's porch.
A beautiful little male sat for a long time and ate
as though he was starving. He flew up and sat in the crepe
myrtle for awhile and then visited the feeder several times.
I think he was just passing through but it was good to see
    him.
I'm going to start planting some flowers soon for the hummers and butterflies.

    Congratulations!
I see hummingbirds around here almost every day. And while it's always a happy experience, it can't compare with the excitement of seeing the first one in spring after a long winter!

They are around here all the time. A couple of months ago at a customers house we noticed a baby on the ground under the nest.

I find many nests in the trees I trim of all kinds and am careful to check if they are occupied. If I can leave them and still trim the tree I do, but if they are empty and the limb has to be trimmed I save them and Missy has a big collection of nests in glass cases.

To continue, I came home and got a hummer nest and tied it in the tree next to the other one and we put the baby in it. We kept an eye on them and the parents started feeding right away. A couple of weeks later the babes flew from both nests and all was well with the world.
