An oddity. The center is the grow point. Without the center it may die. Unless it establishes a new grow point. But I think that center growth will flower. Otherwise it looks robust. Keep us posted.

SM is right. This happens occasionally, and usually means the end if the plant. It could create a new baby from the base of the mother plant (called a basal keiki). But mama is most likely a gonner because she won't be able to make more leaves.

The leaves of the main clump look like they are going yellow.

What causes yellow leaves (I think the photo exaggerates the color), and what can I do about it? This plant has become a 'project.'

You can't do anything except nurture the mother plant. The mother plant will eventually die. Let it grow and keep feeding mama and giving her good care. You should get a nice keiki. Might even flower.

Wait until roots form before separating.
