    Answers:

    1. You remove the old pulleys with a pulley-puller.
    2. You buy new pulleys at the pulley store.
    3. Get the 7 inchers.

in other words, what is the model numbers and codes off teh existing engine/tranny and what are you wnating to do.

some pulleys simply unbolt. some require a puller. where you get the pulleys depends on what type you need. and the size, well that depends on what you are trying to do. you may go up in size on one and down in size on the other. or you may change only 1.

The back pulley is like 8 or 9 inches and the front is like 5 I think Im going to change the back to a 5 i dont know what to do with the front.

again, what are you trying to do? if you want more speed but less torque it is one way, if you want to increase pulling power at the expense of speed you change another way. changing the back to a 5 will give you more speed, but give up pulling power as it will allow the engine to load down more.

More speed... its soooo slow like 5mph. should I change the engine pulley too?

"The back pulley is like 8 or 9 inches and the front is like 5 I think Im going to change the back to a 5 i dont know what to do with the front."

You are talking about making one drastic change here. You'd better sit down and do a little figuring about how many RPMs you really want to change. "like 8 or 9 inches" is quite a spread to start with. There is a simple formula for calculating this but I have forgotten it - - someone here surely knows what it is.

are you using this machine to cut grass? if so then you will see a degradation of cutting by increasing speed much. you start to outrun teh blades.

How can any advice be given to this poor soul when
there is nothing to indicate what it is he/she is working
on, or what he/she is trying to achieve?
I thought the posting was a joke, which is why I responded
    like I did.

Hopefully this isn't for mowing- just a utility or a racer.

Here is a link that might be useful: calculator

Im using it to move stuff in my backyard but I have a huge backyard and it takes too long to move stuff, I want to make it faster, is that soo hard to explain? (5 in front 3 in the back end of story) now where do I get new pulleys, sears?

I am going to take a stab at it, you say move stuff? how? drag it? a cart? weight of what you are moving?
flat lawn? hills? wet and muddy? dry? it all matters that is why there are so many questions, the only reason a LT pulls as much as it does is because of the pulley ratio. If you swap haphazardly, you might end up with low gear about the same as high gear, in that case may as well just try to move stuff, in high gear now. And the rest of the gears ending up about useless.
Think i dont know what i am saying, i built a GT from the ground up, and it is geared (pulley wise) slower than it was before, that way you get a good strong slow low gear, and it gives more power to the higher gears, so you can actually use the higher gears, move faster than it did in low, and still have enough power to do it.
If you don't get what the people you ask say,and care what they say, that have been there and done that. Then why ask in the first place. If the yard is that big, that higher gears now aren't fast enough, well, all i can think of is buy a old truck to move stuff, or a 4 wheeler.

seriously, all I am trying to do is make it faster bro. I bought a new john deere for mowing, and im trying to pimp my old craftsman, so I painted it changed everything in the engine, new wheels light underglow everything but the pos is slow I want it to go 25 mph so what should I do, rempove the govenor, change pullies what??? it goes 5 mph right now.

    Thanx

you get it going 25mph and it won't have the power to actually pull anything. you gain speed, you lose pulling power.

you need to google racing lawn mowers. there ar emany forums out there with all the info you need. but you are going to have to give a LOT more info such as model numbers of the tractor/engine/tranny.

i swear it took a dozen posts to get a hair of info out of you about what you have(a craftsman)andthat does not tell use ANYTHING and what you want to do(go 25mph).

Best way to make that thing go really fast is: Install a nice 4 cylinder engine--plenty available at auto junk yards, the 4 speed transmission, and a truck rear end, or a complete drive train from a small car. Be sure to have a place on the back, to carry the BIG stones that you will need to keep traction! A small car radiator will be needed, with the hoses, etc. Don't forget heavy brakes, although you could rope the big stones to the frame, and toss one off to make it stop!
You will have to lengthen the frame and reinforce it-maybe build a heavier frame. The steering will have to be changed, too, as the light duty steering won't be able to turn the heavily weighted front wheels!
I know you can make it all work, as i have seen those types of small tractors built up with bigger engines, etc.
But, to save a lot of work, i'd just use the complete little car to do the hauling of stuff, without the tractor.
I saw an old Pennsylvania brand of lawn tractor, that a man had stuffed an old Ford 60 h.p. v/8 engine in it, for the lawn tractor races! It would stand and paw at the air, and won every race in its class! (This at a steam tractor show, in New Centerville, Pa., about 30 years ago!)
If you do get it built, don't aim it at anything! You might just make a new doorway in it!

Right;if you had it geared to go 25 MPH,you're almost sure to get hurt. For starters the wheel bearings in the front are probably not going to handle that speed too long,And I Know the brakes won't stop you for more than about half a dozen times you use them, and if you want to move stuff in a cart,I can gaurantee you, you'll smoke the belt first or second try.....top speed should be no more than about 15 MPH,and even then I'd be very careful on the corner's...and watch your brakes..good luck

Yeah I need help I have a John Deere 212 it is currently stock I want it to go fast but not too fast because it has no suspension and I want a little power so I can pull my trailers. It is a side shaft drive belt and I am not sure where to start or what size pullys to use.
