new growth!

I'm fairly new to orchids. I had one botched attempt a few years ago, in which i mistakenly threw out my plant thinking it dead or dying as it had not made any kind of change in 2 years. not this time!

This orchid was an impulse buy, but only after scouring the web for what i did wrong last time. I think it's a phal, but "just add ice" does have a label on their flowers. Not to worry though, I'm not freezing out its poor roots.

I had it in a window over the winter after the flowers fell, but once spring hit, the longer sun exposure seemed to start burning its leaves so i moved it to my office desk{{gwi:807}} where i have florescent lamps under an overhead storage cabinet. It really seems to like this. Almost immediately after i cut off a brown segment, a new shoot started from the node below, a leaf is growing and all of the air roots have shiny new tips. One of the roots looks a little wonky, but it's still growing so I'm leaving it be for now.

I don't have any pics of the original flowers, but they were white with dark purple Rorschach-like markings, which is what originally drew me to it. I'll post some if it progresses all the way to bloom again.
