This is a great idea, but as a remodeler I have a few ideas and concerns. Why is the dryer venting into the closet? It should vent to the exterior of the home, if possible. If you cannot get it vented easily through the wall and out, look into taking it up and out the attic and out the roof, unless you have a 2nd floor. J&R Construction Services, Inc. made a good point about venting the dryer outside. If you build a 'proper' pantry closet enclosure it will prevent moisture from getting in the pantry. Also you can consider using open wire shelving for more air circulation.

Thank you both. Yes, the dryer does vent outside. In fact, we recently cleaned the all the hoses but between running very hot towel washes and drying tons of clothes, the closet is still a little steamy. There's never been mold or anthing of the kind...it's just a more moist and damp environment than I would ideally choose to store sugar, spices and cereal boxes with. I was hoping someone might have an affordable, easy fix to keep that dampness on the laundry side of the shared space. I don't want to have to frame out a wall between the laundry stack and the slide-out pantry shelves; but I will if I have to. Thanks!

You could look into a moisture sensing exhaust fan. It would need to be vented outside also. These fans sense the moisture and come on automatically and then shut off when the moisture is gone. Other than that maybe a melamine wall between the 2 spaces or something like.
