We found treasure

Went to eat at a Greek restaurant about 10 miles from here and took the river road back home instead of the highway. Thought we would see if there was any wild asparagus along the road in the trees.

We didn't find any asparagus but found 14 nice big MORELS in a spot under an old dying cottonwood tree.

Unfortunately we had eaten already so the morels will have to wait til tomorrow. They really don't keep very well so will look forward to a feast tomorrow.

We like to split them in half lengthwise, rinse them then spin them in the salad spinner gently, dip them in beaten egg and fine saltine cracker crumbs and saute in butter. Sublime. Quite rich but I don't know of anything better.

Dried morels are priced at close to $30 an ounce if you can even find them so will feel rather pampered with our fresh ones.
