I took it from the store and planted it in soil but it has mulch on top.

It's a phalaenopsis... Please help its looking sicker by the hour! Should I just spay it? Couldn't hurt right?

Not for planting in the garden, a tropical plant best grown in a pot. Here are some complete culture notes in the link. Sorry about the metric temps, you should be able to find similar notes written for your climate zone in the USA.

It is a Phalaenopsis orchid, It cannot be grown as a garden plant unless you live in South Florida, Hawaii or similar tropical places and even there it has to be grown in a pot or mounted on a tree.

I do not think any insecticide that you use on a citrus will cause harm, but my take in that you have dug a hole and planted it in the soil. That is a no no. Take some time to read those complete cultivation notes and go from there.

Most phals. die from incorrect potting and overwatering. The roots need to get wet, then dry a bit before the next watering. If you have planted it in the garden the roots will just rot, the plant will look sick and decline and die.
