Doomed? Broken leaf.....

I just received orchids from Hausermanns Saturday and the packaging was impeccable, however, my Phal. (violacea var. borneo x violacea var borneo 'Pacific Isle') came with a broken top left leave (not center leaf). As I unwrapped the package, the leaf was resting beside the plant in the newspaper. It looks like it snapped off right at the base where it grows from. I can see the "V" from where it was.

Will this orchid live?? It looks super healthy, new roots growing, and even new spikes starting...I'm so afraid it will die now. I emailed them and asked for advice, but haven't heard back from them yet. Do any of you know what will happen?

It wasn't the center, top leave, so that tells me it might be ok...but I'm trying to find out for sure.

I dusted the "V" with cinnamon to avoid infection, and it looks fine today, I just need reassurance from a more experienced grower.

Thanks so much....I'm waiting to upload more pictures, but my connection is sooo slow.

Don't get me wrong please, I would recommend Hausermann's to everyone, I've ordered many orchids from them, and I've never had an issue and plants are always bigger then expected. I think this happened, obviously en route somehow.... It happens...

Obviously, the loss/damage of a non-terminal leaf on a phal does not spell certain death. Leaf loss happens.

Well wonderful! Thanks for the repsonse... I did receive a response from Hausermann also. "Obviously"... it wasn't "obvious" to me...lol... else, I wouldn't have asked the question, which is what these forums is for ;-).

You are right to ask your question on this forum. It IS, what its about. Your plant looks very healthy and should recover.

This is my first orchid ..I got this orchid while blooming... was in good condition and new flower steam was growing. But one day a leaf broke, I thought its ok and few days later another leaf :(

Now the steams have gone brown, from roots too. could anyone tell me if my plant can still survive.

few roots are still green, few are turning yellow / brown.

Do you have a photo? Have no idea what type of orchid you have. Probably a Phal.

Doesn't sound good from your description. Maybe you overwatered. Please read culture info on your plant and if you have a photo it would help.

this is how the start of leaves and root looks like. most of it seems dried. Please let me know if i can save the plant

I'm afraid that plant (a Phal I would guess) can not be saved.

I would discard the plant.
