Double Sided Fireplace

Hello All,

I am completely at a loss with what I should do with this double sided fireplace mantel ? I recently removed all the ugly ceramic tiles from the face and mantel and replace it with the stacked stone. Its roughly 26 X 42". I am going to remove the decorative pillar.

I have white granite on my kitchen island in the background, should I just match that or go with something completely different ?

Please help, what can I do ?

Hi Colin, What did you end up deciding? Would love to see how it turned out! I really like the stacked stone you chose. I think my initial thought is that a dark stained top would look fantastic. Maybe wood similar to this:

Hello Emily,

I actually gave up on the idea of putting barn board as a mantel and decided to make something out of MDF. The barn board was working out to be very expensive and I still needed to sand and stain the wood.

This is what I opted for, very basic and nothing too fancy.

It turned out gorgeous! I think using the MDF and keeping it simple made the stacked stone stand out.
