Are you sure there are live eyes at the base? If they have died, the plant is technically dead no matter how alive it looks.

Have you tried giving it more light? Dens need lots of light, as much as a cattleya or more. If that doesn't work you might try a shot of high nitrogen. Dens don't like a lot of nitrogen, it makes them keiki, which is what you want. Once the plant gets growing, back of the nitrogen. Just a suggestion.

Thanks. I took a closer look at the plant and - no eyes or even hints of eyes. No roots either. I now have an empty pot and more space for something else.

"warm to hot growing epiphyte and likes to be kept moist". If you want to try to start it, I would go for a sphag and bag on this one. Clean it up really well and throw it in a zipper plastic bag with some moist (not wet) sphagnum. Make the bag big and leave a lot of air space. If water condenses inside, it is too wet.

This might also respond to lying on its side on a tray of sphagnum. In that case the sphagnum can be wetter.

Good way to look at it Kev, "more space." I just wish more of my big honking plants would croak instead of the small ones. I can get an awful lot of new minis in the space a big plant took up.
