What's for Supper?

Well, Sunday dinner, today.

I picked up a small roast to cook. It will be slow cooked in a mixture of soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, and honey. There will be new red potatoes roasted with the meat. Sides will be deviled eggs, creamed corn, french cut green beans, and Texas toast, Smothered in plenty of garlic. Garlic is supposed to be good for hypertension.

Will have a glass of Merlot along with the meal. Or two.....

This will be a feast today, and there will be enough for left overs for a couple of days.

That sounds good, but not for the hot weather we've been having. Something about umpty weeks of 95+ has taken my appetite away. Tonight will be chili-mac for DH. I think I'll just have a bowl of ice-cold cantalope.

Wow, Dorph, that sounds delicious! And since you're doing the cooking, I'd be happy to come to dinner!

Like Meldy, my appetite has dwindled b/c of this d---ed heat wave, but it's made me want to cook less, too.

We'll have our usual Sat. night supper of a big tossed salad with cheese and hardboiled egg added for protein. We'll have it today, instead of yesterday, b/c yesterday, we bought 1/2 bar-b-qued chicken dinners, cooked by our local Ruritan Club. So, I didn't have to cook, then, either. BTW, there was enough chicken left that it will go into the salad, too.

As I've posted before, "Pray for snow!"

Mashed Yukon gold potatos from the garden with hamburg gravy (dd getting over flu, wants some comfort food), fresh green beans, not mine, (I just planted), honeyrock cantlope, or muskmelon as we call it around here. And I better put the potatos on to boil, I'm getting hungry with all this food talk.

A couple of small sreaks on the grill, cole slaw and cantelope. Applesauce sorbet for dessert. Unlike the rest of you it is a beautiful day, right now Leone said 79 degrees and the humidity finally fell below 50%, suppose to warm up next week though.

Home made mac&cheese, store bought sausages, frozen petit peas.

Sounds good Michael. We usually cook something on Sunday that we can have again during the week, but I'm sort of out of commission and Christy has been craving red beans so that's what she made. So, we had Red Beans and Rice, and some fresh string beans. They were really good. For dessert, yesterday I made these oatmeal bars called British Flapjacks. I also made some oatmeal cookies so maybe a bar and a few cookies with some icy cold milk.

Shoot, why do y'all always ask this question when I don't cook
dinner. I had an avocado sliced with mayo on that round
    flat deli bread.

I'll make a tomato pie tomorrow and eat the whole thing.

Let me preface this with, I've been trying to do a better of job of picture taking on for the Cooking forum threads. That said, I didn't eat on Saturday and ate double on Sunday, because I am packing up my house. Busy, busy, and then run down.

Friday's Hawaiian sliders and fries (that's a virigin pina colada in the background, didn't want to cough up the bucks for coconut rum)

Sunday's dinner (tarragon chicken, potatoes au gratin, and broccoli) and dessert (crispy peanut butter cookies and ice cold milk)

Hosted 15 this evening. I made my grandmother's strudel, a turkish coffee cake, blue cheese dip with veggies, fruit, DG made hummous and a goat cheese spread, with pita. Fruit, soft drinks and juice, no alcohol. Dishes done now and floors clean. Tomorrow my son gets drafted, and family and friends turned out to wish him well (and stuff some cash into his pockets!). It's so hot here we try not to go outside after 11 am until it gets dark. The deck burns our feet. We eat a lot of cold cereal and salads these days, unless something's in danger of going bad, then we gotta cook it!

batya, I just luv your international menue. That's just the kind of meal to bring the family together. Your son is lucky to have you and your whole family to send him off.

It's still cool here today so I spent some time in the kitchen. Lunch/Dinner today was Meatloaf, using home ground beef/w gravy, potatoes baked in a 1-1/2 qt crock pot, salad with baby spinach, Persian cucumbers, canned Mandarine oranges sprinkled with slivered almonds and topped with store bought dressing.

Peppers from the garden, stuffed with black beans and dirty rice. Black walnut/cherry/orange zest zucchini bread for afters.
