Phaius repotting?
I have a Phaius Orchid (Dan Rosenberg- Mellow Yellow). I have owned this orchid for 4yrs...and have not re-potted it. Every yr around Christmas it throws up two or three spikes and lasts until March.. I knew it needed to be re-potted but when I took it out of it's little pot--It was a mass of roots growing in circles around the pot... The old pot is maybe a 5"...One root alone is over 18" long! With the exception of two or three roots they all look very healthy...How should I pot it? What size pot? Do I leave some of the roots above the potting mix OR do they all need to be in the mix? Will orchid bark be ok? Do I need to straighten out the roots==spread them out...
I am new to orchids (have 6 that are all 4+yrs old and they do wonderfully in my bathroom window... I really know nothing about them other than I LOVE them.....Thank you for any/all the help you can share...QB
