Starter Fertilizer - Proper Application Rate?

What is the recommended application rate for starter fertilizer (in lbs/1000 sq ft)? Just the regular Scotts brand. All that's listed on the bag are numbers for a Scotts spreader (which I do have). But I'm a bit concerned that the manufacturer is maybe over-recommending amounts or something. So I thought I'd run it by the GW crew. I'll fertilize either today or tomorrow, btw.
