We have plans to build a porch/deck off of our morning room at the rear of our house and we plan to add a roof over the porch that will be incorporated it into the existing house with matching siding, shingles, etc. The pitch on the morning room roof is 4/12 and I'm thinking we need to match the pitch on the porch roof in order to best incorporate the new roof into the house. In order to match the pitch, extend the porch and roof out to match the end of the morning room, start the roof line below the two existing windows, and provide adequate ceiling height, we are thinking that we we will need to incorporate a step or two down from the sliding glass door on the morning room down to the level of the porch floor. Adding the steps from the door isn't ideal, but I think it will be worth it to allow for the pitch of the roof to match and to decrease the number of steps from the porch down to an eventual patio.

Is matching the pitch really that important? I feel like it is, but my wife isn't all that concerned about it since it's on the rear of the house.

I've included a very (very) crude drawing just to give an idea for the design and how we pictured the roof line to look. Would very much appreciate any advice!
