Pole Lima's in Western MD

We tried pole Lima's again this year, with only marginal success. They are starting to set a few beans, but more blooms than beans (But not as many blooms as in the past). The weather has not been as hot as it usually is, and they have been watered.Even the bugs have left them alone for the most part. The soil is not in the greatest shape yet, but the peas, carrots and onions that were in this bed in the spring did well. The plants look good, and have slightly exceeded the potential size indicated on the packet. They are dark green, and the foliage in general is quite lush. I was wondering if I could add something to help boost the blooming.I am reluctant to add anything with Nitrogen since they are obviously converting well on their own. It will be a bit of a pain to feed the individual plants, but we don't mind spending the time if it will help.
