Orchid broken in half, hanging by a thread

I have had this orchid for three years. It is hanging from a tree and the roots are in a plastic pot--no potting medium or anything.

It has done great--until my cat played with it and broke it in half.

This happened about six months ago and the top continues to hang upside down, green, and actually very healthy looking.

But it is just attached to the roots in the pot by just a tiny skinny root.

About 10% of the roots (thick healthy ones) are attached to the plant and 90% of the skinny, dried up ones are in the pot.

If I cut the plant from the dried up roots, will it survive, since it has about five very healthy roots attached to it?

Thanks!
