I don't use it nor like it. Better to plant in bark.

I like REPOTME and have been using them for 4+ years.
They have straight CHC chips and mixes also.
I use their CHC mix as an in-between for moving plants from spagh to bark.

I feel the potting material needs to match all the circumstances.

Are you always available to water? Do you like to water.? If you are a busy person you may prefer plastic pots with material that holds a lot of water. Or clay if you are heavy handed with the hose. That is me so I use a lot of lava rock. In clay pots.

Then what does the plant like? Some like vanda orchids don't take any medium. Bulbos like it wet. Others like it dry.

When making those decisions I try to understand what is happening in nature with the orchid in questions. And try to incorporate that into deciding what material to use.

Any diverse collection will need to use various potting materials.

Coconut husk chips are a proven, perfect potting medium for cymbidiums, otherwise I haven't found any other orchids that seem to like it. The CHC bricks are simply CH "coir" fiber, or pith. Coir is good for cymbidium seedlings and as they grow up, more and more chips are added to the mix to the point where at a 6 inch pot there is no coir. If you are using CHC for cymbidiums, it is a good idea to soak and rinse them out several times to eliminate the salt buildup. The suppliers may tell you that they have been rinsed already but don't take them at their word.
