Any mulch is good and none is better than any other. Pine straw is no better than wheat, oat, or barley straw, or shredded oak, maple, beech, or many other deciduous tree leaves. Some people do have a preference and will state that one is better then another but in reality they are not. Use what you have.

THANKS. I enjoy your feed back, always good info. If you grow tomatoes I have 40 plus seed let me knowif you want some, I`ll send a list. Bill

If you live in a very windy area, the pine straw may not blow away as much as the wheat straw. I used pine needles in my vegetable garden to mulch around my seedlings. I used wheat straw for the corn. The wheat straw pretty well blew away.

Might not be the same with plants larger than seedlings.

Pine straw does not have to be removed in the spring. The plants will come up though it from several inches deep. The strawberries will stay clean as a result.
