mine did this too, it kept growing but the big leaves kept dying, and the one pumpkin i had on it fell off, i recently gave up and just hacked up the remaining stems and leaves for compost

If the leaves had white fuzzy stuff on them before they died then it's powdery mildew. The plant in the top right corner of the pic looks like it has PM.

Most of my pumpkin plants get powdery mildew. This one didn't have it, yet still it was dying from the roots out. The top right pumpkin plant grew with a silvery finish.

There are no holes in the stalks.

And as for controlling Powdery Mildew, I've had no luck. It always kills all my pumpkin plants. This year I sprayed the plants with Sulphur fungicide every week. They all died.

If it is not Squash Vine Borer then it must be a soil issue. What does a good reliable soil test have to say?
Powdery Mildew is pretty easy to control and sulfur is not really necessary.

It really looks like a PM issue. Did you plant a disease resistant variety? I planted the Seminole Pumpkin and it has survived everything so far. Small edible pumpkins but really good eating.

i would suspect that the 6 inches of roots showing.. indicates the soil has been washed away ...

and as of the pic.. it was supremely dry ... including the exposed roots

once its that stressed... PM would easily overwhelm it

i am sure.. the heat of the cement in the hot of summer.. wasnt any help in the equation ... and if the walk is not in sun ... then the plant is probably not getting enough sunlight ...

As my pumpkins and zukes were dying along the same pattern as yours, and because I love composting, I built compost heaps on them (wood, apples, grass clippings, manure, straw).
But as the tips were still nice and green, I left the very top of the plants out.
They have been growing and producing till some days ago. OF course the little pumpkins won't have time to grow before frost but the zukes have accumulated in the freezer.

So through pure chance and luck I discovered that burying the old dying stem gives a new life to the plants. You could try. Just bury till the first healthy leaves.
