Has anyone ever used Uniseals in plastic totes, like the kind you get at Walmart or Lowes? The sidewalls are kind of thin, and I'm curious to know if they will hold as well on thinner containers as a bulkhead fitting?
Hey, Nancy. It sounds like overkill to me. The Uniseal would outlast the tote pretty fast if exposed to weather. Sort of like the Mona Lisa on the wall of a mobile home.
It would work but depending on the pressure and movement of fluid through the pipe the tote probably wouldn't last very long without tearing. The Uniseals would be probably be reusable though. But why not use something more permanant than the tote in the first place?
Of course, I could be totally wrong since I don't know any details about your project. I used scraps of EPDM and all weather caulk between the walls of a bulkhead for 6 inch pipe on a Skippy and it is still working after 10 years without a leak. A Tote wouldn't have gone 2 seasons. Of course, I didn't know where to get Uniseals then or what they were called. If my DIY wears out I'll replace it with a Uniseal.
I've just used a uniseal for the first time. It's great. The only thing I'd worry about is the tote tearing when you pushed the pipe through the uniseal. It takes a lot of force. I was putting it in a sturdy five gallon bucket, and I was afraid I would break that.
