The phal needs a drop in temp but no lower than 55F degrees for approx. 2 weeks to initiate spikes. Phals can be repotted anytime even when in flower. This is not true of other orchids; it sends them into shock and may delay future growth and blooms. Carter and Holmes has a how to on repotting orchids; check it out. After cleaning it up look for bugs and start with the mildest; insecticidal soap spray before resorting to stronger stuff. Always read the label on sprays and make sure it's safe for orchids; many are not.

If your Phal is in spike, I would not worry about repotting it until next spring. Although Phals are more forgiving about repotting timing than other orchids, I don't recommend repotting anything in spike, bud, and flower.

As for bringing it inside, inspect it well and give it a good spray down with your preferred insecticide. I have a substantially larger collection so I take more drastic measures before bringing mine inside. I drench the entire collection with Bayer 3 in 1. But I would prefer using the milder stuff and visual inspection. That would just take too long.

How do you mix up the Bayer 3 in 1 for your orchids.

I used the concentrated liguid diluted according to the directions. I apply it using a pump sprayer. I spray the leafs and drench the pots.

Ditto what Greencurls said, but I do it three times over a 3-4 week period in the fall to get any eggs that may hatch between sprays.

Hybrid Phals don't necesarily need to go to 55, just an @15 degree drop from day to night temps for a few weeks in the early fall.
