Well, I look at it like this. For $250 you get what? A 4 year old repaired pump with at most a 90 day warrenty. More likely 30 day.

And if it dies (and it probably will) you are out the $250 plus a new pump.

I think that if the repair is over 25% of the value of a new pump, go for the new. You will get a warrenty, and it will more than likely be more efficient than the old one.

But that's my .02

Wheen shopping for a new pump be sure to check the wattage .Huge difference on what it costs to run the pump.
I'd also opt for a magnetic drive there is only one moving part that you can replace yorself.
I had an Iwaki pump that run from 1980 to 02 ,24/7 when I sold it. They cost quite a bit more but obviously worth it . Might mention that this was a used pump when I got it and in saltwater. gary

Pondmaster are also very efficient mag drive pumps.

I have a pondmaster that is over 20 years old and I have replaced the mag drive 2 times and last time I just ordered 2 so I could easily replace it. I even think I know where it is...I think. The 1st replacement was because I messed up and pumped the pond dry and ran it w/out water (thank goodness it was elevated above the bottom of the pond by 8 inches or my fish would have died) and the last time I think it was just tired. Has been a good pump.

are you looking for an external or a submersible? with a pond that big you should get a external pump,performance pro are energy efficient, high head pumps, fish mate makes large high volume pumps, that are submersible
