Sucker ?

I have 3 knockout roses that have all developed tall shoots that look different from the rest of the plant (which is bushier and lower to the ground). I'm not sure if they are suckers or what. I've read that suckers will have 7 leaves and the look of the leaves and flowers will be different. But the leaves and flowers are identical to the rest of the plant. Last year and this year these shoots developed right after I put iron down (it is low here in West Texas) and fertilized. They shoots are coming from below the ground and seem like they are from the roots. Any ideas?
