If you consider green an acceptable color evergreens would be an easy choice. Holly for a little red. Red bark Japanese maple, cherry, purple fountain grass, persimmon has the fruit in winter, birch and poplar if b/w is a color.

In spring/summer/fall the choices are endless. Canna is my fav.

I'm cuckoo for Canna so that is always my choice. And for a 1/2 acre pond they're large enough to be seen on the far side. You wouldn't want them all the way around. If you put some evergreens behind them that would help block the wind and give you the green in winter. Canna are also fast to reproduce. But they have to be dug up every year and overwintered indoors (probably, don't know your zone). Even in warm climates they have to be dug up and divided. So maybe just some.

The easiest would be going native. I don't don't your natives. But I'd check into Azaleas, Rose of Sharon or other mallows gets pretty tall and blooms all summer and is a fast grower. Tiger lilies, Day lilies, lots of kinds of lilies.

To me it's best to pick lots of different kinds that bloom at different times. More interesting. Rose of Sharon blooms all summer but that gets old fast.
