Orchids actually prefer to be mounted, this is the way they grow in nature. You just need to water them often enough.

How to mount them? How about 'Green side up' as a general rule, roots facing down, leaves facing up.

A picture is worth a thousand words. B. nodosa generally does best mounted.
In a mixed collection some are best in a pot, others best mounted. Sometimes maintenance becomes an issue, you do not want multiple watering routines.

Thank you Nick and Arthur, for the swift reply, I've gone ahead and mounted several, in the 'green up' position, there are several Catts. left and I will prob. pot 2-3 and the 2 others will go on cork-slabs.... I put them out in the Kumquat tree with a garden-hose hook-up I turn on regularly... I've never tried the mounting thing, I saw some pics of orchids in trees and they all seemed to be 'green side down', so thought I'd better check w/experts, so another 'thank you' is in order... sally

Just be careful the center crowns aren't positioned to collect water. That will cause rot quick.
