Worlds smallest toad/frog... : )

Okay, I'm nuts. I went outside a few minutes ago, lurking around my pond. Some of the tadpoles have emerged from the water, and they are the smallest frog/toads I have ever seen in my life. I took a pic and they seem to be bronze or dark brown color. So far, with the way they are shaped, they look like frogs, but I can't be sure. I can't see any distinctive markings. I may have to get my daughter's magnifying glasses out. Does anyone have any guesses? Like you will be able to tell alot from the picture. LOL.

That's about the size of the one I snapped a pic of the other night. 'Course mine was sitting a rock of the same color so he's virtually invisible =[. I know mine are toads though - got a good look at the zillions of eggs before they started to hatch, lol.

Hubs *sigh* snagged a couple of dozen & put them in the [otherwise empty] aquarium so g-son could watch the transformation. Andddd..do you think hubs lowered the water level in the aquarium? Uh-uh, he just added a stack of rocks up to the top. I'm praying I don't come home from work one day soon & find my house invaded by toads!

That looks about the size of the toads I have emerging from my pond. The Tadpoles are starting to disappear and the little "American Toads" are starting to appear everywhere.

If you realize how small duckweed is, you can tell how small this froglet at my house is.

Well, they are a'coming. I counted 22 tonight. And, I think I have more than one type of tadpoles. The little one from the picture above, was a small(maybe 1/2" head to tail end) solid dark brownish/black tadpole. I think its been decided they are American Toads. Yet, tonight I seen some that were about 1/2" to 3/4" long that were greenish on top and yellowish on bottom. The skin seemed translucent and on one side, you could see an orange colored intestinal something or other. What do you suppose that one wants to be when it grows up?

No clue what it might be but don't you just love to see the little guys? We enjoy our wildlife ponds soooo much. We spend far more time looking at them than we do the fish pond.

I love everything about having a pond. It is like having a biology, zoology, and botany lab right in my own back yard. My youngest daughter, who is 19 and was my tomboy, came over and when she seen the baby toads, she was fascinated. Just like she was when she caught 11 LIVE MAD BUZZING bumblebees in her bug house when she was 4 yrs old. Bumblebees, the BIG ones. *sigh* My kids grew up on me when my back was turned. Sometimes my girls still fascinate me, just like the pond does.

Cute little frogs. I have one I raised all winter in the aquarium and a bunch I hatched from the pond in the new half land half water one. The big ones is eating the little ones I think. They are disapprearing! I have to download pics of them and see what the big one is. I think he is either a bullfrog or a pig frog.

Bullfrogs will eat other frogs. They will eat baby bullfrogs as well. If it moves they'll eat it.
