I don't think there would be such a site--just think of all the different growing zones. Each one would have a different start date, and in those zones there are many microclimates--each of them would have different starting date. Then there are the thousands of different plants and varieties. The list would go on forever.

Your best guide to starting seeds is this-----
Start with your zone and find the last frost date for your area. Then look at your seed packet or seed catalogue or access seed companies on line. Park seeds especially gives you a lot of info on the plant you are going to grow. Look at the number of days to flowering or maturity as well as days to germination.

When you have all this info you can then determine when you need to start your seeds. If the package says start 6 to 8 weeks early and your last frost date is April 15th, your seeds should be started the end of February --first part of march. The seed packet may say 8 to 10 days to germination so you can hope to see your seeds poke through then. Sometimes it even gives you the temperature it likes to germinate.

Do your homework and it will soon be second nature to you

Of course there are such charts. She's not asking for a chart listing specifically which date to start seeds for her area/zone; she's asking for a chart of the NUMBER OF WEEKS ahead to start each variety. I have several saved, though none are terribly thorough.

And for germination conditions, nothing beats Tom Clothier's site:

Oilpainter is right about catalogs giving the best info for specific varieties; my favorite is Johnny's, but you need their paper catalog, it has infinitely more info than their site. Hope that helps!

Well, I have read such lists as you describe in the old farmers almanac, but they never gave specifics and I found them rather useless. When I first started gardening I kept notes and read catalogues. They were more helpful than any half baked chart

Yet they exist nonetheless, and you'll see I agreed with you above.

Thank you all. I finally was able to access my files and found the 2 sites I like. One was the Tom Clothier site that Sleepy33 offered. The other one is a great one:

I do have the Johnny's catalog and just placed an order this week, but it didn't have the info I needed for a few plants. I keep a list of what to plant how many weeks before last frost and conditions needed for germination. I just needed to add a few.

Thanks! Happy seed starting!
Susan

Sorry folks, the link above doesn't work. This one should:

sewobsessed, that grow guide is awesome!!! I have been hand planning this - too bad it doesn't generate an entire table instead of weekly tasks, but hey, it is better than me doing it by hand!! THANK YOU!!!

g'nut

You're welcome, g'nut!
Yup, an entire table would be nice. I just grab a calendar and keep changing the date on the guide forward a week so at a time until I have the entire planting and transplanting schedule done and attached to my plant stand before I even sow one seed. Well, everything I don't winter sow, anyway - that way is so much easier, but I still need something green inside to coddle when it's still so cold. lol.
