Yes, I heard. So sad. Another "rose great" gone. He was 76.

Oh, had not heard that. So sad.

Here's the local paper obit.

A lot of my roses came from Peter Beales.
I bought Colombian Climber, sight unseen, from his catalogue description. I am glad I did.
We need people like him.
Daisy

Colombian Climber this morning. It smells gorgeous.

A sad day for all of us.

yes, but his roses will go on. I will be ordering James Mason to sit alongside Scharlachglut. As our wood is less than a dozen miles from Mr.Beales demesne, this seems a fitting tribute.

I have several of his books and respected and liked him. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I wonder if there will be younger rosarians to take the place of the greats who have come before them or who, like Mr. Austen, are at a very advanced age.

His roses were lovely. I just recently purchased "Classic Roses" and it is wonderful. Also, his website was helpful and informative.
Ingrid, it seems he has family...perhaps they will carry on.
In his obit I read he had trained with LeGrice. My favorite breeder.

The man who came to the rescue and brought his credibility to help ... sad to see him go ... enjoyed his one lecture I got to attend.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. He was always so responsive even via email. I emailed him asking him about a particular rose and he emailed me right back! I was surprised (but not totally surprised since people into roses are very helpful). I was fortunate to live near Ralph Moore's Sequoia nursery and had a chance to go there before he passed as well. So sad. He was pretty young to have passed.

Yes. I was sorry to hear about it the other day. He'll be missed.

I'm so sorry, very sad news. I have a Peter Beales video and it's really delightful. I wish that I could have had the opportunity to meet him.

I hadn't heard! RIP.

I met his wonderful son Richard at Ashdown, and I hope he and Amanda continue their work with roses and carry on the wonderful tradition their father began.

I believe some of the Beales roses I grow were done by the children (just Amanda?). I just consider them all Beales roses :) They are great works!
